I see that according to today's Echo, a 60-bed nursing home is likely to be built on the site of the old Peppermint Park clubhouse on Warren Road. To be honest, I hadn't realised that the clubhouse there was no longer in use. Importantly, this could create 20 to 30 jobs for the area.
According to ' The Post' it should be " 30 skilled workers". Roughly translated thats " 30 low paid foreigers/un-skilled workers ". I was under the impression that Dawlish Warren was supposed to be a tourism spot, is that not what councilors always fall back on when they defend the high council rates/scandlous water rates etc? ( its the price that YOU pay for living by the sea/tourism area etc etc) Building this care home will be the first of probably more to follow. Afterall, as a park owner would you rather have an income for 9 months of the year ( holiday park) or have an income for 12 months of the year (coffin dodger city)? Are the council not happy with the past closure of the main stay of the towns hotel/tourism accomadation without spreading the cancer that is care homes to Dawlish Warren? Im suprised that Tesco and Sainsburys have not jumped on the bandwagon and spread their infantile " You cant have it 'cause Im buying it/applying for planning" tit for tat battle to any of the Warrens holiday sites as well.
Why, because I point out the fact that care homes rely on cheap labour, where ever that may come from? Or is it because I fear that the population of the Dawlish area will be burdened by even more ' elderly gentle folk' rehousing to the area?
