Whilst sat in the garden looking south over Dawlish last night about 11ish we saw three bright lights go over the sky from dawlish Warren towards Teighnmouth. They went at app 15mins interviews. What ever it was travelled faster then a plane and there was no noise-it was definately not planes. The light was very bright and like a ball.Did anyone else see them and do you know what it could be.?????
it could be apache helicopters they have a silent approach and fly in groups of 3,4 or 5 and they based at lymstone
Jacky. I have done some further research and you might be right about the Apache helicoters!!!!what are they doing at night?
Re Bright Lights Over Dawlish On Saturday June the 19th 2010 at exactly 22.22pm I noticed three very bright lights in an arc in the sky, traveling towards Teignmouth.they where much brighter than the few stars that where out. After a few seconds they changed formation to an arrow shape and started to disappear behind a stung out cloud.I grabbed my camera and manged to take two rather shaky images.Even behind the cloud you could see quiet clearly bright lights then they were gone. it was something I had never seen before.Nothing like any aircraft as we know them Spooky and i had goosebumps Can some one explain? or did i see something behond our world?
On BBC Radio Devon on Saturday morning they said this weekend you should be able to see some comets north east and the space station, doesnt sound like what you saw though.
That'll be the chinese lanterns as you say nothing else, nothing mechanical, nothing spooky just plain old lanterns, now lets all come back down to earth as these things eventually do, lol
It sounds more like the laterns. It wouldnt be Apahes they are based in Hampshire and use Salibury as a training area. It could be other helicopters like a Lynx going to join there ship if it tralleing along the cost.
Lynx Helicopters have a very course distinctive sound so if it was not making a noise, then that counts them out. Apache. RMC do not use them so they would not be based at Lympstone. In fact, I have never seen an Apache in the skies round here. Chinese lanterns do seem to be the most favourable answer.
Everybody says faster than any Aircraft ? Take it you have never stood on the North Yorkshire Moors when a RAF tornado decides to fly over at 100 feet at 1,511 mph, its long gone before you can even hear it, if you blink its missed. So something you have observed is not faster than any aircraft if by detention you managed to observe it. My opinion, Chinese lanterns, it was quite windy
I think that it can be very difficult to judge the speed of a silent object at night because you may have little idea as to how far away it is. If you were to take it for an object at a distance when it is actually a lantern and quite close, then you might well think that it was travelling pretty quickly.
