All this forum seems to consist of is a few people who constantly accuse the other of being unable to debate anything and are only able to throw insults at each other and very little debate ever seems to take place! Ok, this may be the only thing they have going for them in they're sad lives but why not leave this forum to the more mature people who really would like to debate things and go to somewhere like Yahoo that apparently have "Fight Rooms" where you can insult each other till your little hearts are content.

What would you like to have a debate about then expat?

I've just had a quick look down the list of threads and can't see a single one started by yourself (apart from this one, of course!).

So fire away, me owd china. :)

The thread that Roy started, "Looney Toon Peter Harry at it again" goes on to say:-
"I see in today's Herald Express that regular law-breaker Peter Harry has once again cost the law-abiding taxpayers a fortune. I bet the codger is dead proud of himself."
What evidence did he have that Peter Harry had broken any law?

I think Roy, as is FEL-699 are very dangerous people - who if they know nothing will make it up to give the impression that they are full of knowledge, when in fact they are both full of such obnoxious crap, that the local sewage works would have difficulty in accepting it.

Perhaps debates could be based on fact only.

Me owd china??..
I havent been on here for a while because my wife passed away recently....que the smart comment from Roy... but things havent changed much. Someone starts a thread and pretty soon Roy and his friends/enemies or whoever soon start trading personal insults. I dont think I'll bother coming back. Enjoy your time on here Roy!!

Commiserations re. your sad loss.

expat, you clearly don't want to debate -fair does, that's your prerogative.

However, those of us that do want to continue to present an alternative view to the spin, lies and libel that Viaduct, User4549 and other members of the Peter Harry fan club are forever spouting, will continue to use the Dawlish LIVE! forums.

The sad thing is that almost everyone on the forum does have useful things to contribute.
I have been stimulated to check legislation and further explore information contributed by those who may know more about a topic, irrespective of their own viewpoint.

I feel that those who post personal insults or remarks trashing opposing views often do themselves a disservice. One can often miss a valid point by dismissing such postings because of the way in which they are written. I have even found myself wanting to disagree with views that I share because I am so incensed by the way they are expressed.

Above all, I believe that a willingness to listen to and absorb the views of others is as important as expressing one's own. A debate is only useful if one is open-minded enough to be prepared to modify one's opinions if a convincing argument is put forward.

Could not agree more Don.
When others do not understand, they throw their toys out of the pram in an effort to gain attention for what ever reason. I do not know why the baby threw his toys out of the pram and more often than not, neither did the baby, but it drew attention.

here we go again !!! peter harry did no wrong because the law was wrongly enforced, end of. i think general debate is impossible because people start talking in riddles and slinging insults at each other. it would be great if we could get more people to post on various subjects but it becomes impossible due to the ferocious few

Sorry to all with the exception of Roy and FEL699, Just could not resist posting the following:
Here is the British Parking Association's submission to the House of Commons Transport Committee:
TRAFFIC SIGNS
30. Traffic and parking regulations are given effect by traffic signs and markings. In the UK signs are prescribed precisely in Traffic Signs Regulations and General Direction TSRGD (SI 2002/3113) and if a sign or marking does not comply with TSRGD then the regulation has no effect. We believe that it is important that, particularly for parking, where drivers are expected to comply with regulations, that the precision of signing is preserved and enforced. Where a driver is at risk of a financial penalty, or worse, signs cannot be "about right".

christ almighty , get a life... did not want to come back here , but felt the need in case someone was spouting garbage about me... seems i was right. I know what is morally right and wrong and i am getting thoroughly sick and tired of the tirade of abuse from viaduct and user4549, so much so, that i was contemplating posting such anger at their ignorance, i was looking forward to being removed from the forums.... however, even after a few glasses of red wine, i still know that i have many like minded people here in Dawlish & i really do not give a crap what you unsociables believe in. You are in a tiny minority sirs and i thank god for this fact.

Peter Harry knew there were restrictions where he parked his car. he got caught. He looked for rules in legislation, found something he could use. Totally blind to the fact that irrespective of what is required to enforce the law, his morals dictated that he should fight the system. He did not like the fact that there were speed cameras in Starcross, he chose to fight the system. He parked an eyesore of a van in a parking bay that not only did not belong to him ( allegedly , the owner allowed him to park there), but encroached on the view of the residents there, who were not even his neighbour ( yes, i know where he lives).

everything is about peter harry, he is not a voice of the people, he is a selfish, anti social pensioner and i will continue to counter his anti establishment activities until he shows that he is acting for the greater good. I could not give a stuff what viaduct and user4549 say, I am professionally qualified to voice my protests on here, i don't have to "google" everything for hours on end and then claim i know the law. (and don't reply with something crass like "so, you are the law fel699?)

peter harry, take on a cause that affects us all eh?

FEL699 commented "peter harry, take on a cause that affects us all eh?

I am sure the 3.000 people who got their money back, points removed from licences, insurance premiums went down, their criminal records expunged from the illegal site at Starcross were happy, and suprise suprise it was infront of Judge Farmer, I guess he was wrong too?
I have no problem when the law is properly enforced, but when authorities abuse it then it needs to be challenged.

I'm new to forum - and I DO agree with FELL699.

Re. the Starcross speeding issue - are you saying it was morally correct for all those people who were doing over the 30 mph limit to get their money back/ convictions removed on a ''technicality''?

Smokey
Smokey
01 Jul 2009 19:46

that stretch of road should never be 30mph, it is not a built up area as you come out of starcross to dawlish 40mph would be more sensible and the road does dictate what speed you do. it was changed after an accident when a young child was killed in a car driven by his grandmother who by her own admittance took her eyes off the road. i am not a speed merchant but try to drive sensibly to what the road and conditions permit. watch the yummy mummys breaking speed limits taking their children to school and the dangerous way they park making life hazardous for other children, far worse than those motorists who got their fines rescinded, because the law was not enforced correctly leaving the authorities open to the challenge

PJD, Well Said, How many times to do people have to hear THERE ARE NO TECHNICALITES IN LAW as proved when Judge Farmer, Totnes Crown Court said NOT GUILTY. That road was always 40mph until Devon Safety Partnership realised that it was the perfect money making site, have you noticed they have never been back.If it was and is such a dangerous road, why not.

I have to agree with you expat. It's such a shame that this forum has become a place for people who really should know better, to behave like kids in a school playground, its just laughable. All seem obsessed that their opinion is the only right opinion, debate and discuss gentlemen, in a mature manner, and open your minds to the fact that is is ok for someone to have a different opinion than the one you have. And whats more they have the right in this country to voice those opinions without others resorting to aggressive and insulting replys. Get over yourselves guys and lets use this forum for something positive rather than the negative tripe that is appearing on here more and more! I expect negative replys to this posting, after all a leopard cant change its spots....sadly!
