It offers nothing to tourists anymore. it's tacky and outdated. Thank god we have Torquay to lure the tourists to South Devon.
In the two years that I lived there Dawlish noticeably deteriorated, from a fairly low starting point. I don't think that there is much can be done about it. Dawlish councillors are happy with the status quo - it doesn't really make much difference to them - local businesses still rake it in during the summer from tourists, the property market is still buoyant so the scams that some estate agents are operating with local builders are still pretty lucrative. The Dawlish Post is not interested in the truth about Dawlish as it doesn't want to upset advertisers, its main source of income. Its very sad that a town with so much potential has allowed seedy business interests to dominate and let the place degenerate as it has.
Actually I disagree.
I feel that Dawlish does still offer the tourist something.
OK, so its not grand or lively & vibrant like Torquay, but it does have its own unique charm and is a good base for visiting the area.
I'm not particularly interested in the so called corruptness within its ranks 'cos I'm only a visitor.I'm just commenting on Dawlish as an outsider.
To me it is a quiet & peaceful resort, & that is all I ask of it - all I require to have a good holiday, and I will continue to visit & enjoy my holidays in Dawlish. So there.
well maybe that's because you are easily amused and a rather boring person. if you are happy with fish and chip suppers and amusement arcades may i also suggest you try going to Skegness...or maybe even Bognor Regis. I'm sure they'd be right up your street. i suggest you get some fun in your life love !!!!
Nope. You're way out dear. Don't go in for too much fish & chips - Doctor's orders. Nor arcades. There are OTHER types of eating establishments in the area you know.
Just like to take in the scenery - which Devon has in abundance, and walking. As I said, its also a good base for the area. You assume far too much.
I've been to Bognor Regis, but only stayed an hour, detested it.Just like Hayling Island.
All those bloody pebbles which that area has.
Not really sure how you can compare it to Dawlish. Are you sure you've been there??
Have not been to Skegness but again, don't think its a comparison.
Yep. that just about sums it up on this forum.
Reply to a posting in a polite and friendly manner then someone replys, assuming this ,assuming that, being rude etc. etc.Just like in the past.
Goodbye Dawlish Discussion forum.
You must be a complete an absolute tosser.Or worse.
You know what, thats the trouble with this country, the bloody people who live here!!! Most of them, like yourself, are total imbeciles.(note every word is correctly spelt)!
Firstly i thought you said you weren't going to use the forum again !? Why are you posting again ? We all thought we'd got rid of you!
Secondly...no spelling mistakes but bad grammar in your first sentence and you missed an apostrophe. (that's) not thats !!
What's this 'we' you're on about. Thought you were the only one reading any of this crap.
Rid'd'ance.
i'm obviously not the only one reading it then am i !! thanks for replying but next time you feel like airing your views please don't...no one gives a sh*t !!
2 BE HONEST MATE TORQUAY IS NO BETTER THAN HERE.... THE BEACH IS FULL OF P**SHEADS AND NEEDLES... REAL SHAME TORQUAY USED 2B LOVELY .... ITS CHANGED SO MUCH.…
f**k the tourists! they only come down for our carnival! let them go torquay and sit outside the town hall with the smackheads!
I love Dawlish, I suppose you lot will think I'm weird but there is a great community spirit to the place. Yes people are nosy but all small towns are like that. When the chips are down and you've got a problem it's amazing how many people will help.
I've lived here for 14 years now and I feel like part of the furniture now (probably the sideboard with the wonky leg!).
Any town will have it's faults and bad points - for me it's the bloody fair coming here charging a fortune to make you feel like puking and ruining the lawn - but others like it.
So in the spirit of tolerence can we just accept that we've all got different views but the economy relies on holidaymakers so let's not send them all to Torquay. (Not enough room for them anyway with all the druggies, thieves and scroungers!)
I USED TO VISIT DAWLISH WITH MY FAMILY APPROX 20 YEARS AGO, AND WE LOVED IT. BACK THEN IT USED TO HAVE EVERYTHING A FAMILY NEEDED ON IT'S DOORSTEP. NOWADAYS DRUGGIES/DRUNKS AND YOBBOS SEEM TO RUN THE PLACE. IT'S NOW NOT SAFE TO WALK IN DAWLISH AS THE LIGHT GOES DOWN. DON'T SLAG OFF DAWLISH, US VISITORS ARE WHAT'S KEEPING PEOPLE IN JOBS.
It's not so much dawlish as the town council who run it, with their lies and deception, I just hope people remember it when the elections come along. As for having and un-elected Mayor who did not receive one vote at the last elections and then puts lies in the Dawlish Gazette that's too much
Well said from Leeds.
The West Country people seem to have a problem with tourists, in Cornwall it is worse.
They want visitors but don't if you follow. What they forget is they have the nerve to go on holiday themselves in other areaa of the country and expect to be welcomed.
It's a good thing the West Country Tourist Information do not adverise this discussion board.. people would soon choose elsewhere and yes then an outcry from locals on less jobs.
As far as I am concerned you all come here ..the place is so miserable in January and there is no life at all.. I would rather see people around.
