Does anyone have any further information about the reports of the unknown person approaching children in the Warren & now Dawlish? I have been told this morning that apparently there was another incident near the Sports Centre yesterday evening?

Do we now have someone scaremongering, or do they have genuine reason to place this on the board? Rumours aren't worth a light.

On a topic that causes great concern to people, it seems to me that this forum is a good place for the posting.

Thanks Don, I did not set out to worry anyone, I have no way of knowing if the info i was given was true, I posted to see if anyone could throw any light on it. In view of the fact that several people have viewed the post and that our lovely little town is quite closely knit, i take it that this is indeed "Chinese whispers". I have been at the receiving end of scaremongering only this morning. i was advised by a parent that there was an incident of a man reported in the trees at gatehouse school yesterday, only to be informed by my 5 yr old that the story was allegedly from a year 6 student ( with an overactive imagination which can be expected)...

The rule is really; Any concerns, speak to your headteacher or local police & try not to gossip. Incidents like these are of great concern to us parents and the community as a whole, let's try to keep the pressure cooker in check .

As Don said something as serious as this should be made public.
At least Gatehouse school took the mater seriously and sent letters home to parents making them aware of the situation.

Cannot fault the school on these matters. What we don't need is people passing on intell. that is already 2nd hand ( and unconfirmed). People always feel the need to pass on information, it's in our nature as social animals, I hope no-one else interpreted my original post as scaremongering, that serves nobody & can actually hamper the authority's enquiries.

This is not a chinese whisper, the first incident happened in May in the Warren, the second on 16 June in Dawlish. All schools were informed by the police and everyone got a letter about it from the schools. In this day and age Viaduct, being vigilant is a far cry from scaremongering. The man in question had indecent images of children on his mobile phone that he was showing the young girl in the Warren. If that doesn't sicken you then there is something seriously wrong with you.

how do you know it is not a chinese whisper DAWLISHDAME?

What evidence do you have apart from someone saying, "a young girl was shown images from a mobile phone."
Go along to a court of law and listen to some of the cases where someone claimed they were raped, shown images of indecent images, didn't do it, it wasn,t me, they told me, etc, etc, and then tell me that scaremongering is not part of the English vocabulary.
Unless there is proof, why frighten everybody else with a story without foundation?
Almost everybody that I know are exploited by their fear, fear of punishment being the greatest.

Viaduct seems to be protesting too much. You haven't got something that you're ashamed of have you?

For the record, this is a police matter, not gossip.

And the hypocrisy of Viaduct claiming that others are scare-mongerers is hilarious. He obviously can't remember any of his previous lies that he's posted on here.

Dawlishdame - he'll never admit he's wrong so don't hold your breath.

From the police website CLICK HERE:

Police in Dawlish are appealing for witnesses to an incident, which occurred close to a children’s play park in the town between 8.30 and 9.00 p.m. on Tuesday 16 June 2009.

A nine-year-old girl left the park via the entrance nearest to Churchill Avenue when a man approached her and shouted at her.

The girl ran from the park and the man ran off in the opposite direction towards the primary school.

The man police are looking for is described as being white skinned but with a tan. He was 5'8 tall and had combed down dark coloured hair. He had what was thought to be a Yorkshire accent.

His face was described as being and he was wearing a 3/4 length dark-blue zip fronted jacket with a high neck. The jacket had white writing on the left-hand side of the chest and he was also wearing muddy, white trainers.

Police would like to speak to the man and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who recognises the man by his description to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting reference JG/09/1159.

Will Dawlishdame and the original poster get an apology from Viaduct?

Here is my reply boyo and Dawlishdame..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................nothing to report. Of course the police are interested - it's there job.
How many people who have reported something have had their collar felt for wasting police time - how many, you will have to shout louder than that.
I asked for evidence, what happened to that?

There's your answer Dawlishdame. He will never admit to being wrong - it's an unfortunate trait in many of his generation.

And as for the irony of the fairytale spreading, libelous **** daring to ask others for evidence to back up their claims, well it's probably gone straight over the head of the saddo.
