Now that Sandy Lane golf course has closed I wonder what the area will be used for?
It's a shame the skate park and youth centre couldn't have been built on the top area.
Watching the local West country news the other night I was surprised to hear when the previous peoples million winners were mentioned It was said the skate park at Dawlish was built on disused ground when all those lovely trees had to be felled.
I wouldn't be surprised. There was talk about building houses on the top part of the field some years ago but Teignbridge Council has said the land is not for sale.
There is a group of people fighting to save the playing fields lets hope they can shout louder than any council or developer!
Local authorities have a duty to provide open space, leisure and pleasure facilities. As far as I am aware in the last 50 years, Dawlish - one way or another, has destroyed much leisure facilities and it has never been replaced. When there is a demand for allotments, that leisure facility is never met with enthusiasim. Providing allotments, provides no gain (financially) for those with their snout in the trough. But suggest something where there is a finacial gain, and those in authority will be like bee's around a honey pot.
