Does anyone know of a connection between Dawlish and India at the time of the Raj? I was in Dawlish churchyard yesterday looking for the grave of Isabella Lighton, died in Dawlish in 1840. She was the widow of James Lighton, Major in the Bombay Horse Artillery. Ddn't find a headstone, but I noticed two other graves of people connected with the Indian Army, one very grand in the name of Sage, with crossed swords, names of battles and so on. Would be grateful for any info on this subject, especially if anyone knows where about in the churchyard Isabella was buried.
Thanks
