I am coming to Dawlish with my 3 Nephews aged 12,10 and 6. Can anyone advise me on some nice places to visit in the area if this great british summer lets us down. If its sunny they will be happy in the pool and on the beach with a game of Crazy golf and a visit to the amusements thrown in for good luck, but any ideas if it rains? Thanks
That's a bit of a tough one - I'm sure the weather will be fine by then though!
There's always the museum to while away a rainy hour or so. I guess your kids are too old for the Monkey House.
As it's Scarecrow Week, you could ask them to help judge the winner. As in previous years, scarecrows will appear around the town on shops and pubs etc and residents and holiday makers will choose the winner by picking up voting forms and being the judges.
You could catch a train from historic Dawlish station to any number of destinations along the coast. Or go inland and take them for a ride on a steam train at the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh.
Or you could wrap them up in waterproofs and take them for exciting high tide walks along the front between Dawlish and Dawlish Warren.
Whatever you do, have a safe journey down and I hope you enjoy yourselves come what may.
Karen a nice round trip is.. the train to Paignton, from Dawlish 10 pass every hour. Then a steam train to Kingswear, take the ferry to Dartmouth, ferry to Totnes then if nice the open top bus back to Paignton. Full info on this link ..

You could just go to Dartmouth if you prefer and back in reverse on the steam train again to Paignton.
Barnstaple nice trip, Train is £8 each and £1 each for the children. Ask for a group save.
Paignton Zoo.
New bus now goes direct from Teignmouth to the Zoo every 30 minutes.
Hope that helps ..have a nice time..
The Met Office have issued a cautiously optimistic forecast for week beginning Bank Holiday weekend but at the moment the weather is terrible. Whatever happened to global warming? Anyway, if you are prepared to journey as far as Torquay I find the Rainbow Fun House near the harbour is a godsend whenever we have bad weather in the school holidays. Just take earplugs!
Thank you all for your suggestions, there are plenty of ideas if the weather isn't hot and sunny. I am looking forward to seeing all the scarecrows around the town and a train trip will be on the cards too.
Sorry I didn't reply previously, but I do hope you have a good time in Dawlish. I'm sure that all of the constructive replies to your response will help you enjoy your time with us.
Pity you weren't here last week for the carnival, as I'm sure you and your nephews would have really enjoyed seeing the Red Arrows, etc.
I really wish that I had been down last week. I have been in Dawlish for Carnival Week a number of years ago and the weather was glorious, that raft race was excellent and the activities of the week were a joy to see. Perhaps I will be able top make it next year with them as I know they would enjoy it.
