I see that Lady's Mile camp site is full of holiday makers - and especially the bit where Tesco want to build their store and car park!
But what are we to make of their latest planning application, in relation to the associated Tesco's bid? Any thoughts?
I so dislike /tesco's they are one of the biggest tax dodgers a-going.by putting most of their income off shore.
In this money is winner takes all with little social conscience Tesco and other giants will be all powerfull
In answer to Bardwell's question (and please remember these are only my thoughts on the matter).
Having read both the Tesco planning application (and my gawd there is a huge amount of it!) and the one from Lady's Mile to turn another piece of their land into holiday accommodation land, it seems that the reason Lady's Mile wish to do this is that it would compensate for the loss of holiday accommodation land should Tesco be given planning permission.
For various reasons I would disagree that this would be the case but I think you may find that is the argument that will be put forward by the parties concerned.
So, if I understand this right, Ladies Mile are able to undertake a multi-million pound project with the money they get from selling to Tesco, but have to build their chalets in that part of the land not occupied by Tesco. Dawlish is deemed to 'win' as the chalets are considered more up-market than the static caravans. If Tesco doesn't go ahead none of the above can occur. I might have the wrong end of the stick, but it doesn't seem a strong argument to me.
Incidentally I note that Ladies Mile are already building chalets on a previously pleasant green field site by Cockwood harbour.
Since when has dawlish been about 'upmarket tourism'? It's always been the bottom end of the industry, down market and 'carry on' cheerful. Any upmarket tourist will seek the more cultured locations and the tacky element.

Dawlish may well have built its reputation on 'cheap and cheerful', but that's not going to last forever, hence the regeneration plan for the Town, still presumably being squabbled over by the Town Council. Regeneration plan suggests Dawlish move up-market to get a better-off class of punter into town, and presumably bigger profits all round, increased prosperity etc. So now, I imagine, is a good time to be putting in planning applications that could conform to that blueprint.
What snobbery! The 'cheap and cheerful' holiday trade is still vast and viable. I suggest it's snob Dawlish residents who want to move up-market to get a better-off class of punter. If they are that embarrassed by their town, perhaps a move would be in order?
So you reckon it's a good thing to camp next door to Tesco's? The pain from your latest tattoos and piercings going to keep you awake anyway, I suppose, so the deliveries, refrigerators, shift changes, traffic, etc, won't bother you...?
Or do you just want to rack up some clubcard points.

So wrote Anon (or one of them). Not so! Check out the Regeneration Strategy commissioned by the Council - there was a link to a Draft on these boards some time ago. This is the way the council want to push the town and they presumably consider that they have buy-in from business community and residents.
Whether Tescos is up-market remains up for debate though.
Tesco up market?! Pull the other one.
Waitrose followed by Sainsbury I would have thought. Then Morrisons, Asda, Tesco. Then, Co-op, Somerfields. Then Lidl, Aldi and the like.
And no, I don't think if it were Waitrose or Sainsbury wanting to build on Lady's Mile that that would make it okay. It most definitely would not.
Lady's Mile is totally the wrong site for a supermarket - whatever the brand of store or whatever socio-economic group its customers come from.
Just like our promised youth centre in Sandy Lane is the wrong place to have a Youth Training Centre.
I'm with Gentleman's Furlong on this; No to development on Ladies Mile which is now at least a green woody patch on the way out of town - why on earth concrete it over? How long before we become another suburb of Exeter?
Glad you agree with me Bardwell.
You'll have put in a formal objection then concerning the Tesco proposal and be encouraging others to do the same?
Mine's already in! Other's who may wish to object will find useful advice earlier on this forum: two posts on 31 July, one 'How to object to a planning application' from empowerer, and 'Tesco at Ladies Mile' which gives the relevant application number which has to be quoted.
Bardwell, GF, etc. It's really difficult to go through all those posts to find the one you're talking about - you know, how to object. Can you put the info up on this one again? Or just set up a new thread on "HOW TO OBJECT"? I think it would be a good tool for all of us.
Paranoia Roy , now your accusing me of posting when i'm busy on other threads. Bloody hell i must be talented. Your boring the f*ck out of me now so i'm off to the other forum. Sleep well nutter.
Well,Heaven forbid that we have a decent supermarket here! That'd be awful!Imagine not having to take the wonderful drive through Teignmouth, out to Newton bloody Abbott!Maybe this is one scheme where the Protheroes won't get to make a back hander, unless they've relatives on the board of Tesco's!
And such accusations could never be levelled at our revered councillors,as nepotism and backhanders for the boys doesn't happen here!If they were as big as Tesco, they'd be every bit as bad!
wouldn't put anything beyond them! check out their planning CV....it will astound you and open up your eyes to what they are up to.
I think some of you may be missing the point.
As Sainsbury have already been given planning permission to build at Shutterton Bridge and it is deemed that Dawlish needs one new supermarket only there is therefore no need for another one.
So Tesco at Lady's Mile would be surplus to requirements and would also take away land that is used for tourism.
