17 formal objections to Tesco's plans to build at Lady's Mile have been lodged already.
Keep 'em going in. The more that go in the more the point gets made. See other threads for how to lodge objections.
Apart from Teco being a sleazy supermarket, what other objections are there for not wanting Teco here?
Because it has been officially deemed that Dawlish only needs the one new supermarket and Sainsbury have already been given planning permission.
Therefore Tesco (or any other supermarket for that matter) would be in excess of that need.
One is deemed quite sufficient.
In planning terms (and that is what counts) there is no need for more than one new supermarket.
Sainbury have beaten Tesco to it. Tesco are trying it on.
Object to Tesco on the basis that there is no need for them given that Sainsbury's have already been given the go ahead.
Then fling in anything else that you don't like about their planning application.
This may sound naive of me but, is there a chance that having two supermarkets might result in a price war between the two thus giving us - the consumer - lower prices on our weekly shop...
I'm only trying to point out the positives don't hurt me please :(
Wouldn't dream of hurting you.
Can see your argument. A bit of competition can do wonders. So, you never know, the shops in the town just might lower their prices in response to the competition provided by the new supermarket!(and, alas, quite probably go out of business in the process).
You might think shops going out of business is of no concern to you. But actually I disagree. It is to the benefit of us all that we have a thriving town centre.
The ONE new supermarket it has been deemed Dawlish NEEDS so, according to planning, the ONE it must be.
Dawlish and its hinterland probably couldn't sustain another supermarket anyway.
