Had to go there this afternoon.
I know its carnival week. saw lots of people about. They seem to do different things to their gain... 'talent comp' is on today. I walked along the seafront, I think they cater well for all ages. The Tennis Court and a large play area for little ones and ery popular today. The Pier to me makes a seaside.
I came back to Dawlish, lawn, to see two children on a blow up yellow bouncy thing and just four people on the bowling green...so quiet in town.
I think Dawlish Carnival should stop the red arrrows and look for some new ideas. The pram race has run its course! .. but i know its pub orintated so will last forever!
There must be something different from the normal.
Why not have that music festival that was about 5 years ago on the lawn?

Quote, "Why not have that music festival that was about 5 years ago on the lawn?"

Why not go to the General forum and look at the comments about , "The party in the Park"

i agree with anon, why cant we change carnival a bit its boring, ok not get rid of the red arrows as they draw in loads of people but something else, im fed up of the same boring things. why has teignmouth got better and dawlish got worse? even the procession seems to be getting smaller every year

Teignmouth and Shaldon looked splendid and magnificent in last weekends sunshine. Pride was apparent in buildings new and old.

I was envious. What do we have planned for Dawlish? A dodgy skatepark and now a youth club/centre which is going to house druggies and offenders. Why is Dawlish so lacking in foresight and ambition? Could it be we have councillors who are more concerned with personal gain regardless of the outcome for our town???

Teignmouth is moving up I see that.
Dawlish does not want to progress, which is very clear, any new ideas are quickly squashed.
People see this forum with its comments and given the choice of 'location location' for a new shop/busimess ... Dawlish nolonger ticks the boxes. Even the supermarkets have been met with a brick wall!

The carnival here is still a great show; there's lot's for the tourists (Red Arrows etc.) but the home brewed bits, pram race, raft race and procession are great fun for us all. Most people I know love this stuff and I'm not sure it has too much to do with the percieved image of Dawlish - it's an opportunity for Dawlish to enjoy itself! Loosen up some of you critics!

Yes, but for goodness sake think of something different. If other towns can why not Dawlish?

the red arrows are great but weather dependant. also about 30 fully laden coaches disgorge their passengers for 2 hours, pick them up and move on. they spend next to nothing!

Only thosands of pounds on food and drink.

The dawlish carnival is brilliant. You keep saying "think of new things" yet dont give any suggestions, sounds like a Roy post to me.

So Shaldon and Teignmouth do it so much better, come on then in what way?

I spent the day in teignmouth today sitting on the den with my children listening to the live music and the atmosphere was amazing everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, its such a shame dawlish isn't doing a similar venue on the lawn! has anyone thought to ask caroline at The Snooky Trust to organise a day of live music on the lawn? she seems to be organising a lot of great gigs for the charity and keeping the events in Dawlish?

At last, a decent thread that could bring positives to the Town.

It would be good to see live music at the Lawn.Maybe give some local bands a chance(i'd also like to see them given access to the theatre).

What about the charity football tournament that used to be held on the lawn. All the pubs took part and alot of money was raised.

What local bands? Compared to Teignmouth we are miles behind! All we have is crappy karaoke type bands in pubs like the Lansdowne or the Teignmouth Inn. Too many old farts in Dawlish who are out of touch. If you want decent 'young' bands then Exeter is the place.

I didnt say the bands had to come from Dawlish.
If they come from Teignmouth or Exeter , i dont mind . If they are any good it might inspire some from Dawlish to form a decent band and it would give these bands a wider audience.

Hello Everyone

I would love to organsise an afternoon early evening venue of live music on the lawn, maybe an acoustic evening would be good if anyone fancy's helping me please get in touch.

I have a gig for the snooky trust charity on august the 16th and have quite a few acoustic sets coming along.

Take care Caz x

Not my type of music but the best cover band you'll get around here. Maybe they ought to come up with their own material though!
