Just found this. It is a press release from Devon County Council dated 20.5.08

Dawlish Integrated Youth Centre £700,000

There is currently very limited youth provision in Dawlish which has over 2,000 young people aged 11 to 19 living in the area.

The Centre will be used to deliver a range of youth support services including positive activities to promote personal and social development, as well as services provided by Devon County Council's Youth Offending Team; Connexions services; Drug and Alcohol services and other voluntary sector services.

The project has been driven by Dawlish Action for Youth and is widely supported throughout the community. Young people are fully engaged in the needs analysis, design and lobbying stages and they will remain actively involved and play a leading role in its delivery.

Dawlish County Councillor John Clatworthy said: ""Having been a member of the group which dealt with the sale of Exeter International Airport, it is good to see a large sum being allocated to Dawlish.

"The long-standing requirement for a youth centre will now become a reality with this fundin, the site being made available by Teignbridge District Council and a grant from Dawlish Town Council".

I wonder if, I wonder if......that money was released from Devon County Council provided this youth vocational unit was included.

I must admit I did know about the money coming from the County but not a dicky bird did I hear about this vocational thingy.

I understand that at the DAY AGM, John Anthony said there would be NO druggies or offenders.

Are Dawlish youth SO bad that they need these services on their doorstep? Personally I thought the young people round here were very pleasant. I'm sure there must be better places to put such services?

But will ANY Of the DAY lot come out and say it publicly. I dare you. Come on - tell us there won't be any kids using the centre with ASBO's, Drug Problems, etc. Cos that's what john Antony said.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating as the saying goes.

As I do not doubt for one moment that this will be given the go ahead we can merely wait and see what happens at, and who uses, this Youth Training Centre.

What with this, at least one supermarket and the prospect of goodness knows how many houses all being built in this same part of Dawlish I feel throughly, throughly, disaffected myself.

Had I the financial means to do so I would be voting with my feet and moving house.

Yours, extremely disaffectedly,

I agree. We are also thinking of moving now after being here for over 20 years. I just don't know what's happening to this place.
