A LOCAL fire station took the short trip to the Langstone Cliff Hotel for their latest drill night. Dawlish’s firefighters had ‘great fun in the evening sunshine’ practising throw lines, tethered wading, long beach rescue and words of command at the hotel’s pool.

A CHARITY day held in the grounds of historic Luscombe Castle was another big success. The day was organised jointly by the Friends of Dawlish Hospital, Dawlish Community Transport and Dawlish Gardens Trust.

Alfie Pilkington have been transferred to a secure hospital in Dawlish. A 30-year-old man from Exeter accused of sending malicious communications to local schools has been transferred to a secure hospital from a jail, where he was being held on remand during legal proceedings.

A BUSINESSMAN who owns a shoe repair and key cutting shop in Dawlish has hit out at a nearby supermarket’s plan to build a Timpson at its Exeter Road store. Ben Elliot, owner of Park Road repair shop, Be Repaired, says that Sainsbury’s plan to build a new retail concession pod in its carpark will adversely affect his business.

NIGHT bus services will be available on Saturday evenings across Devon throughout this year. Starting from this Saturday, May 31 and following successful trials last year in North Devon and Torbay, the Night bus services are returning alongside new routes in Exeter, including the Dawlish via Exminster and Starcross route.

SEVERAL popular events had to be cancelled this Bank Holiday weekend due to forecast high winds and rain. In Dawlish, there was disappointment as the fourth Turn The Tide environment festival, due to be held on Monday on the Lawn, was cancelled.

A TEIGNBRIDGE fire station’s charity car wash takes place this weekend. The crew from Dawlish Fire Station will be at the town’s Sainsbury’s store from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, May 31. The event is in aid of The Firefighters Charity; a charity specialises in providing both physical and mental support for firefighters and their families.

The highly acclaimed tribute show to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons returns to the Shaftesbury Theatre in Dawlish this summer. Back by overwhelming public demand, the New Jersey Boys continue to play to sell-out audiences and standing ovations.

WITH the new season well underway, Marina Bowling Club Dawlish have had a busy few weeks with the weather following suit. First up was Presidents Day on May 4, everyone enjoying a friendly game of bowls with afternoon tea which included a cream tea before then entertaining a tourist team from Wales.

A table tennis club has been forced to relocate to Teignmouth after being priced out of its former Dawlish home. Dawlish Table Tennis Club will relaunch as Teignmouth Table Tennis Club on Monday June 9 in its new base at Alive Fitness on the Teignmouth Community School (TCS) site.
