This thread encouraged me to go for a wander around that neck of the woods on Sunday. What a pretty area it is with some cracking views, esp from the Old Telephone Exchange! I didn't get to see the £8m pile itself, but it was well worth the effort of walking up there. Does anyone know if there's a public footpath that goes tbrough the estate, one that might afford a view of Mamhead House?

Sorry to disagree, but the Brook lights were working prior to the flood.  The black swan lights by the viaduct haven't been switched on in the 18 months I've been here. I would be interested to know when these mythical "former glories" ever existed!  Just reading the 10, 25, 50 years ago column every week in the Gazette shows that people round here have always been complaining about something or ...

Lynne - from the excellent TDC website: Christmas cards can be recycled as part of your household collection by placing it in your black recycling box, but please make sure there are no cards containing foil or synthetic materials which are not made of paper/thin card. Many charity shops operate Christmas card collections to help raise money.

@Daverc the "alleged" crimes refer to the persons seeking to adopt a child. The reason why, in my opinion, this information is actually relevant, is because social services should be allowed to defer a decision until after the "alleged" crimes have been proven or disproven in a court of law. It should be recorded and held on file until that point in time only. Imagine the uproar in the Daily Mail ...

Good idea. I have, and it seems that the landowners will legally be entitled to tow away and impound vehicles that are parked on their property. Some people are questioning which is worse, clamping or impounding.

GREAT NEWS!  That, together with the Section 16 windfalls, will make a big difference towards the common aim of improving the town centre for residents and tourists alike.

@stephen15 - i agree with you entirely re taotn, my point though is that at the time it was conceived and then installed, the media (notably the daily mail) whipped up mass hysteria against it. the same's happening now.

Or perhaps there's more important things to be wasting your time worrying over?

Good to see that this has almost been completed, and that its a proper resurfacing job rather than than just the thin scattering of road chippings that I feared. Granted that its not before time, but well done for doing the job properly.

It's visiting all branches, as Sainsbury's were the sponsors of the 2012 Paralympics. Well done to them and to all Paralympians, everyone of whom was truly inspirational. I've been fortunate enough to hold an Olympic torch, and I'm grateful to Sainsbury's for providing the opportunity for me to hold a Paralympic torch too!!!

The best chippy is Rock & Sole on Strand Hill - naff name but great fish & chips!!! Mei Lai (nowhere near the town centre) is def the best chinese takeaway in and around Dawlish. The best curryhouse (eat-in or takeway) by far is Gurkhas on Park Road, whilst if you fancy an eat-in meal then look no further than Jack Sprats on The Strand. Enjoy!
