A warning has been issued about not picking (and more specifically) eating any cockles that you may find washed up on the beach. This particular species of cockle is not edible and may be toxic. It must have been a really strong high tide on Saturday night as I've never seen so many starfish and shellfish washed up on the Dawlish Warren spit as I saw yesterday morning.
