The new South Devon Highway officially opened for business at 3.30 this morning, just in time for Christmas! In the wee small hours of this morning a convoy of cars with highways maintenance, police and engineers opened the road to its first traffic, with lucky drivers heading towards Newton Abbot at 3.30 am making South Devon history. Two fire engines from Dawlish and Teignmouth were sent to the blaze in Old Teignmouth Road, Dawlish, just after 9.30pm on Monday after reports that a timber-framed building was on fire. The spokesman said the fire was out an hour later. Half of the building and roof was damaged in the fire. He added that the cause of the fire “was deliberate”. Read more... ...

There is a sign at the bottom of the Charlton steps, but none at the bottom of the Rockstone steps so if you approach the beach via those steps you would be oblivious to the warnings. I did see a cyclist riding on the wall towards Dawlish from the Warren so thought maybe no signs at the Warren, as i past Red Rock i saw this one.

Plans for a safe cycle link between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish town centre have been approved.
