Info here explaining the ideology of Wahhabism and the Saudi Arabia connection. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahhabism I have just been listening to a tv debate about Islamist terrorism. The following points were made: 1.Whilst the military intervention of some western countries in the Middle East may well have acted as a Jihadi recruiting sergeant, the ideology of Wahhabism ...
@Lynne - I wouldn't reform the current system. I don't think it can be. I advocate transformational change. such as abolishing the house of lords for a second elected chamber and pr. having a few hard working, judicious lords doesn't justify a system that evloved from feudalism. But regarding financial remuneration and expenses scandals, etc. I think we need to put pressure on our government, ...
@Lynne , thanks for sharing that. it might be a delicate subject but you right to raise awareness of articles like this, more so after what happened in manchester. I think I've read about Wahhabism once before, somewhere. But you have to go looking for it. The Saudis are untouchable due to trade deals, especially the arms trade. Definitley the real 9/11 conspiracy. Trump's demonization of Iran ...
Delicate subject given what happened in Manchester on Monday. But of the many articles I have read over the past few days the one that can be read via this link I thought the most illuminating https://www.pressreader.com/uk/i-newspaper/20170525/281870118384984 Click on the link above and then put the cursor to the right of the page clicking on the arrow to continue reading.
I go to Newton Abbot Asda sometimes as you get a lot more for your money, as long as you stay away from the named brands. Everytime I go I think wow, can't belive it's so cheap. Well worth going there once a month to get long life products such as canned fish, beans, meat, long life milk etc. Definitely a good saving.
Probably going to regret posting this but..... Anyone any thoughts on how Westminster ( both the Lords and the Commons) could be reformed with regard to financial remuneration? And on a not unrelated point. Why is the term 'career politician' a derogatory one? After all we don't use the expression 'career accountant' or 'career dentist'. Do we not like ambition in this country? Or is ...
@SickOfIt is that it? Of course my posts are up for scrutiny like anyone else's. Some of my posts scrutinize a few local political figures and I believe it is justified given what's in the public domain. I haven't seen you scrutinize anything I've written so far. So I have nothing of any substance to like or dislike. Why personalize this when counter arguments about political ...
ironic you assume i'm a man or a lib dem @Andrew . incorrect on both counts! if you post on a public forum then your posts are also up for scrutiny. don't like it? then don't post.
Yes, really funny but very apt too. Some wannabe career politicians are chomping at the bit to get into Westminster and get those allowances and a fat pension. I'm going to read the Daily Mash - daily. I like this one from 2010; http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/politics-headlines/half-of-mps-lie-their-way-out-of-repaying-expenses-201002042439
And again if i remember correctly is the recent rise in council tax being ring fenced for social care?
