It doesn't bother me "so much". I don't lie awake at night thinking about it. I just find the personal profit from a looted relic and what it represents distasteful. My gripe is with the sale of loot to profit an individual or family. The person who profited was not even the officer that endured the risks of war. That would be less distasteful. Nonetheless, is it legal for soldiers to collect loot, pass it on to family who then sell it and profit from it? I don't believe it is. As far as I can tell it was forbidden even in 1945. Yes indeed Deedoodle. That would be much more fitting than someone profiteering from it. I'm surprised that soldiers could keep looted spoils.

I find it distasteful and dare I say immoral for a lone individual to profiteer from the looted item and what it represents. It should have been handed back to Germany or donated to an appropriate charity or museum.

My husband works on the roads and he tells me that the council notice posted above by Gary Taylor on 16th May is made under the wrong section of law and most likely unenforceable.
