A DAWLISH church has expanded its community offering with the opening of a new cafe. Hope Cafe is open four days a week currently since its recent launch with the aim of adding to Hope Church’s connection with the wider community.

DAWLISH Bowls Club held the third of four 2024 charity days on July 21. 24 was the maximum number of teams and yet 28 showed up so whilst some were left disappointed, this was an absolutely fantastic turnout.

MEMBERS of Dawlish Twinning Association enjoyed a cream tea and bring and buy sale as part of their fund-raising activities. Among the guests was deputy mayor of Dawlish Cllr Anthony James.

A food van based at Shutterton Industrial estate is opening a new outlet in the centre of Dawlish. The Shed will start trading from Dawlish Railway station next week with a takeaway kiosk serving serving ice-cream, cakes, teas, coffees, milkshakes and smoothies.

DAWLISH is gearing up for another fun-filled week of carnival. Volunteers from Dawlish Celebrates Carnival have been working hard to put together a programme of entertainment for all ages. The week will include the 50th anniversary of Knockout, the famous Pram Race alongside many children’s activities.

The busy summer season is now underway in Dawlish, with holidaymakers taking the opportunity to stroll along the seafront whenever the sun finally makes an appearance. But after another sea wall tragedy earlier this month - believed to have been the ninth in this area - some are questioning just how safe they feel doing so.

A JUDGE showed mercy on a retired fireman who grew cannabis to treat pain from a chronic back condition. Graham Walker was caught growing the drug twice at his Dawlish home, bypassing the electricity supply so he did not have to pay the bill.

GRANTS of up to £500 are available to projects that positively address the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of communities around the Teign Estuary. The grant is for communities around the Teign Estuary and adjacent open coastline, including Dawlish, Holcombe and the Ness.

A TEAM of nurses from Dawlish Community Hospital put on their running shoes to raise money for charity. The foursome took part in the Race For Life for Cancer Research which was held at Westpoint in Exeter.

KINGSTEIGNTON Bowls’ Club had a couple of teams in action recently, starting first with the X Division Over 55s on Wednesday 17. On their travels to Dawlish Marina’s Green, it was a day to forget even though Captain John Saunders commented that the rinks were closer than the scores suggest.
