Network Rail’s 300 strong team of engineers who worked to rebuild Dawlish railway line following ferocious storms in February have been awarded for their efforts. The winter storms moved about 100,000 tonnes of sand and damaged sea defences at Dawlish Warren. The work includes creating a new embankment on the warren, strengthening the seawall to protect buildings in Exmouth and moving about 25 million tonnes of sand back on to the beach. Teignmouth Coastguard and an ambulance crew were called to Coryton Cove, Dawlish after an eight year old girl got into trouble in the water on Saturday afternoon. Bradley Daines-Degroot assaulted two victims aged seven and 12. Daines-Degroot was a teenager when the assults took place. He denied there had been any form of sexual contact with either boy. He is autistic and was accompanied by a psychologist in the dock and the witness box throughout his five day trial in April.
