In fairness, no he wasn't. The remarks weren't directed at any particular councillors and the talking across one another etc and not addressing remarks through the Chairman was by no means exclusive to one sector of the council. It happens sometimes that a meeting is about issues that councillors become passionate about. I remember one very similar occasion in February 2011 when there were ...
The application received was from Dawlish Carnival & Entertainment CIC.
The comments made by Cllr Clemens were his opinion. I have to say that I think he rather overstated the case. It made it sound like Prime Minister's question time, I'd say it was more of a debate. I'd rather councillors express themselves than sit quietly. There were lots of numbers being considered, which must have been a nightmare to summarise in a few paragraphs in the newspaper. ...
If you are free tomorrow at 12 noon, the service for Walter Stoyle is at the Christian Fellowship on Old Town Street Please don't feel excluded if, like me, you don't have a Christian faith. The important act is the remembering as a community someone lost to Dawlish 100 years ago in the service of his country., No offence is taken if people don't join in the prayers etc. You are ...
Yes the Air Show has built up some money (Not enough to run the entire show, they still need a lot of support from Dawlish people) whilst the Carnival funds have dwindled. In my judgement that required greater caution, not less I accept this is a difficult issue calling for fine judgement. That is why I am defending colleagues who on balance took a different view
It's exactly the same condition we apply to the Air Show grant, and it doesn't seem to cause them a problem. As councillors we have to exercise judgement. On this ocassion the option I favoured wasn't supported by colleagues. I didn't support either of the other two possible choices, so I abstained to remain consistent with what I thought. Further, I have come on this site and explained ...
The Town Council has paid for the skip service to be in town again on Saturday 28th March Dawlish Warren Car Park from 10:00am to 4:00pm You might like to put this date in your diaries now, so you can plan to empty those cupboards and garages. The following materials CANNOT be accepted: Trade waste, plasterboard, asbestos, demolition & construction waste (in excess of 12 ...
@burneside The reason why I am able to defend those councillors who voted for the grant is that this was a finely balanced decision . I've tried to give a flavour of the dilemma we faced . To vote against the grant would have been too strong a position to take given that I had come down on the other side of the benefit of the doubt. I would have preferred to see the grant ...
As one of the two councillors who did not vote for the Carnival grant - can I just defend my colleagues? Whatever you may think of the carnival team, Carnival 2014 was definitely better than the 2013 version. We can hope for this improvement to continue. There is not much coming forward by way of alternative mass entertainment on the Lawn. Council has always given support to Air Show and to ...
News about two further opportunities to remember Dawlish servicemen who gave their lives during World War One. The services are held on the 100th anniversary of their death. Walter Stoyle will be remembered on Friday 13th March Dawlish Christian Fellowship, commencing at 12 noon Walter Stoyle served in the Devonshires and was killed on the Western Front aged 23 . His ...
