Lynne, just like parking controls, it should and would be self finacing. If it is'nt, then the enforcers have done a good job by not having people breaking the bye-law or they have not done a good job and the burden of employing the enforcers fall on the tax payer and dogs roam around at their pleasure.

Play park costs (from the link I've given above) Play Area • Maintenance – Play equipment lasts about 10 years – Previous large park design around £250,000 – Maintenance would be annual fixes and upkeep, plus allowance to replace the lot in ten years time • Approx £5,000 annual fixes • £25,000 annual allowance towards replacement

Dogs to be on leads or dogs not allowed at all? If either or those how will it be enforced? Who will enforce it? Who will pay for the enforcer(s) to enforce it? How much will it cost to enable the enforcer(s) to enforce it? etc etc. Or will there just be signs telling people of the lead requirement/dog ban? Loads of holidaymakers walk along the sea wall from the Warren with kids and dogs.  ...

What a knee jerk reaction. There are laws in place on the lawn regarding dogs on leads. Just enforce it. Lots of holiday makers have picnics on the lawn with their dogs on leads. Banning dogs would not have stopped the killing of the swan. Those people flout the laws openly, but no one enforces it. This would put me off as a tourist if I couldn't walk my dog sensibly on the Lawn.  There are few ...

Hopefully dogs will be banned from the Lawn which, given the recent attack on our Swans, will surely have the support of most people in the town? Hopefully, anyway.

A lot of good thoughts have been collated there. It seems that the Working Group are doing a good job so far - fair play to them.

Agreed I think there's a push for the park which I'd rather there wasn't as we already have one in Manor Park/gardens, but if there has to be one then outside the tourist and toilets area would be best of a bad job. Also I would tend to support dogs on leads in the lawn area, it isn't really that sort of area for having dogs bounding about at will, there are other areas for that and Manor ...

Something else that won't be enforced.  Don't particularly agree with either of those but I have the feeling there's a push for the play park whether it's wanted or not.  I'm sure I'll be proved wrong when Dawlish is flooded with parents wanting to play and shop.

It has come to my attention from a reliable source that Dawlish Council are in early talks about banning dogs from the Dawlish lawn area. Also they are in early talks about where the new play park is going to be located. That location is going to be outside the tourist and toilets area where all the scrubbery and trees are. As I said this is only being considered.  In my opinion neither works for ...
