Overnight Road Closure
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14
Devon County Council has announced a temporary overnight closure of the A379 between Dawlish and Teignmouth to allow road maintenance works to take place.
Closure details
- Closure times: 7:00pm to 7:00am
- Location: Dawlish / Teignmouth
During the stated hours, through traffic will not be permitted on the affected section of the A379.
Why is the road closing?
The closure is required to allow route-based road treatment works, including:
- Road patching
- Cleaning
- Road lining / marking works
Diversion route
A signed diversion will be provided for vehicles via:
A379 → A381 → A380 → A38 → A379
The diversion will operate in both directions.
Important information
The notice allows the temporary restriction to remain in force for up to 18 months, although the works are currently expected to be completed by 17 October 2026.
The closure is scheduled for 7:00pm–7:00am. The official notice does not indicate a daytime closure, although traffic conditions may be affected by the works.
