Doxycycline 100 mg is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline class of medications. It is widely used to treat bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases (such as chlamydia), acne, and certain eye infections. Additionally, doxycycline monohydrate 100 mg is effective in preventing malaria and treating infections caused by tick bites, such as Lyme disease.

Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, preventing the bacteria from growing and multiplying. It does this by binding to the ribosomes inside bacterial cells, blocking the production of essential proteins needed for survival. Unlike some antibiotics that kill bacteria directly, Doxycycline stops their growth, allowing the body’s immune system to eliminate the infection.

The standard dose of Doxycycline 100 mg is usually taken once or twice daily, depending on the condition being treated. It should be taken with plenty of water and avoided with dairy products, as calcium can interfere with absorption. While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience side effects like nausea, stomach upset, or increased sun sensitivity. It is important to follow a doctor’s instructions carefully to ensure the best results and avoid antibiotic resistance.
