SOUTH West Water unveiled its extensive plans to improve water quality and reduce the use of storm overflows in Dawlish at a public information event. Proposals for the town are part of the water company’s £2.8billion five-year investment programme aimed at tackling the much-criticised use of storm overflows during heavy rainfall.
Its not correct to say the companys £2.8 billion investment as its the south west water users e.g US that will be paying for it. This is the same company that give the chief executive a £200k pay rise even with the brixham water debacle so dont have much confidence that this will come in projected timeframe and probably cost overruns along with possible millions of pounds symphoned off for the shareholders. Viewed the display and my thoughts were just a nice power point session and a tick box exersise so the SWW can say they " met with the customers " .Be warned this will be a massive disruption to dawlish after viewing the hole they will be digging in the lawn to insert tanks and traffic rerouting. If i was a shopkeeper on the strand i would be scared to death about lost custom. But it will probably go ahead no matter what the public view is.
