A 'cherished' mother was mutilated and killed by her own son, who has admitted he filmed the horrific ordeal and been given an indefinite hospital order. Bradley Huggins pleaded guilty to manslaughter of 53-year-old Hazel Huggins, from Dawlish, by diminished responsibility.

We have a mental health pandemic and mental health services are cut to the bone. This sort of tragic incident is becoming more commonplace. I don't understand why people reading these reports are so surprised and never see the correlation between criminality and mental health conditions. Anyone who kills, especially their Mother is far from sane, yet he was living amongst the wider community despite a history of assault and a history of substance/alcohol abuse. So the likelihood of these types of incidents is high in our uncaring, increasingly compassionless society. It says a lot about our society that similar incidents continue to occur, there was a family murder by a son in Kingsteignton recently and teenage stabbings seem a weekly occurence.
People don't just become mentally ill for no reason and they don't just wake up and decide to kill on a whim one day. This is just another poorly reported sensationalist piece of crap from Devon Live that fails to see the real complexity. I feel for the Mother, the Father and the son who when sober and not in an episode of psychosis will have to confront the fact he killed his own Mum.
