A new emergency alert system will take place in the early evening of Sunday 23 April.
The new system will be used when lives are in danger and in the event of emergencies, such as severe flooding.
People will receive a test message on their mobile phones within an area of risk.
If you get an Emergency Alert on your phone, you’ll hear a loud, siren-like sound. A message on your screen will tell you about the emergency and how best to respond. You’ll be able to check an alert is genuine at https://www.gov.uk/alerts
Only the government and the emergency services will be able to send the messages. If you don’t have a mobile phone, you’ll still be kept informed through other channels.
Your location will not be tracked, and your phone number or personal data will not be collected. You can also opt out of receiving emergency alerts if you wish.
