VILLAGERS in Starcross have reacted with relief that a trial pavement widening scheme in the village is not planned to go ahead

So....I get that pedestrian safety is a concern in that area. But everyone living around here knows that it is a bottle neck in terms of traffic and that widening the pavement would only aggrevate the traffic congestion. The portico sticking out into the road doesn't help but I think it is listed so therefore it cannot be removed.
Starcross needs a by-pass. Especially with all those new houses due to be built in north Dawlish which will only add to the numbers of cars using that bit of the A379.
In the absence of a by-pass? Traffic lights?
From TDC's Local Plan Review part 2 which was out for consultation last year:
"Dawlish, Cockwood and Holcombe are all served by the A379, which runs through the town and villages. This is the primary route through this part of the district and links to Exeter and Torbay. However, there are bottleneck areas in the A379 between Dawlish and Exeter and should large scale development be proposed, it may be necessary to consider additional highway infrastructure beyond the parish."

A bypass would be good but not sure where it would be placed. The pillars can cause traffic jams but not sure if it would help if they were removed. Traffic lights could be the solution, they work in Kenton.
This minute of Starcross Parish Council isn't dated but as it refers to a 2012 DCC Highways proposal I guess it also dates from the same time.
