Network Rail has apologised to the public as the Colonnade underpass at Dawlish is about to close for up to 12 weeks at the height of the summer holiday season from next Monday June 13. Engineers are building 20-metre long foundations for a new bridge in the second section of the sea wall, which is being built to protect the town and main coastal railway from storms and rising sea levels.
