Tracie Atkin, 54, of Dawlish, Devon, left her profession and turned down the offer of a new role earning £35,000 a year in order to work at charity Cats Protection.
Tracie said: 'I am in a position where I can afford a salary cut and to do something that I really enjoy. Money isn't the be-all and end-all.
