When Hazel Kampler bought her seaside flat last year, she was drawn to its perfect vantage point on the idyllic Devon coastline.
Fed up with the ‘steel forest’ shrouding her home – and defying her age at 86 – she clambered out of a first-floor window and used all her strength to haul away the planks blocking her view.
Now fellow residents at the 44-unit retirement complex in Dawlish, have hailed her a hero for taking direct action, and she has earned the nickname Spider gran.
