Black swans, which originally come from Australia, have been raised so successfully in Dawlish that they have now become the town’s most recognisable feature and a major tourist attraction.
John Nash, who emigrated from Dawlish to New Zealand, paid frequent visits home to the town and decided that the town needed something unique.
