Network Rail Western Route Managing Director Mark Langman said: “Safety is our priority and owing to expected extreme weather tomorrow no services will be able to run through Dawlish and Teignmouth in the morning.
“Strong winds and high tides are expected and once the poor weather has passed our engineers will inspect the railway and reopen the line once it is safe to do so.
One day someone will come with an idea of putting the line inland away from the sea ....Dawlish Parkway!
And looking at the weather thats on it's way it may be closed again Friday/Saturday.
It is nearly five years since the line was closed for two months after damage caused by a winter storm. Conservative Cabinet Ministers, led by David Cameron, fell over themselves on visits to the region promising “money will be no object” in ensuring the Westcountry gets a railway resilient to the impacts of climate change.
