The enormous fire at the Victorian carriage and repair shed near Newton Abbot train station was so big it could be seen from miles around - from Dartmoor to the north and Torquay to the south.
Fire crews from Newton Abbot and Torquay were called to the derelict building and quickly requested assistance from crews at Paignton, Bovey Tracey, Totnes, Danes Castle and Teignmouth.
At 6.30pm relief crews from Ivybridge, Topsham, Dawlish, Princetown, Tavistock, Taunton, Honiton, Middlemoor, Torquay and Paignton arrived.
i would't be surprised if there was an awful lot of asbestos went up into the atmosphere during this fire, considering the age of the building. I may be wrong!
