The enormous fire at the Victorian carriage and repair shed near Newton Abbot train station was so big it could be seen from miles around - from Dartmoor to the north and Torquay to the south.
Fire crews from Newton Abbot and Torquay were called to the derelict building and quickly requested assistance from crews at Paignton, Bovey Tracey, Totnes, Danes Castle and Teignmouth.
At 6.30pm relief crews from Ivybridge, Topsham, Dawlish, Princetown, Tavistock, Taunton, Honiton, Middlemoor, Torquay and Paignton arrived.
