A plan to boost the economy in Teignbridge, which includes free public Wi-Fi in town centres, will go out for public consultation.

Phase 1 would see Teignbridge intend to deliver the installation of a public Wi-Fi solution for Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Dawlish town centres that would be a no-cost option for the council, where both the provider and the council can profit from the application.

Someone was asking previously how this could be free to both provider and council. It details this in this report -

Neil Blaney, Economy Manager, told the executive on Tuesday morning that it would work by the company who install the network and selling advertising space within an app that businesses can buy into. He said that revenue is generating from that and the future use of the infrastructure and a percentage of the profit goes back to the council.
