Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police say that local residents have received calls claiming to be from both a tax litigation department and Devon and Cornwall Police.
On Monday police were informed by a local tradesman in Dawlish that he was contacted by phone by someone pretending to be from Devon and Cornwall Police.
