If your roof has been failing for some time now, the fall is the perfect season to finally get that roof replaced. Here are seven reasons why fall is the best season to have your roof replaced.

  1. Summer is typically the second hardest season on your roof (after winter). Strong summer winds and thunderstorms can take a serious toll on your roofing system. In the fall, your roof has just endured a tough season and so it’s a great time to replace it.

  2. In most climates, the fall has the ideal weather conditions for a roof replacement. The weather isn’t too hot or too cold making it an ideal time for roofers to be up on the roof doing a roof replacement.

  3. The winter is the hardest season for your roof. If your roof is failing, you definitely want a new one before the harsh winter weather hits. A new roof needs a little time to seal properly. Replacing your roof in the fall allows for plenty of time for that seal to form so that your roof is ready for winter.

  4. Shingles become brittle in cold weather. In colder climates, trying to replace a roof during the winter will lead to a lot of accidently broken shingles during the installation process. To avoid breaking shingles in colder temperatures, roofers often have to resort to hand nailing rather than using a nail gun which makes the process a lot longer and more expensive.

  5. The winter weather will wreak havoc on your existing roof if there are any vulnerable areas. Small leaks can quickly become huge disasters. In climates that get heavy snowfall, your roof may not be able to support very much weight. Ice dams can also become a big problem so getting a new roof in the fall is ideal.

  6. One reason many wait until winter to get a roof replacement is because it’s considered a roofer’s off season and work is usually slow. Though homeowners can sometimes get a price break in the winter, many roofing crews will be taking a much needed vacation after a busy summer and fall. Roofers may be in short supply even in the winter.

  7. The winter can be a costly season if you’ve got a compromised roof. Heating costs can literally go through the roof, as in that hot air you’re paying for is escaping out of your roof. Replacing your roof in the fall is a wise decision because you save a lot on heating costs immediately afterwards.
