A truck driver has admitted causing the death of a 62-year-old teacher in a traffic collision outside the Smugglers Inn pub in Dawlish last year.

Brett Robins, 33, of Lower Drive, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

The incident happened on June 4, 2014.

Robins was driving a Renault motor lorry, on the A379 Teignmouth Road when it was in collision with a Daewoo Matiz car driven by Julia Barker.

She was a teacher at South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton and died from her injuries at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Robins will be sentenced on August 27
