The only two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the world will be flying over Devon this summer.

One of the four-engined World War Two bombers is flying in from Canada to join the Royal Air Force’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s own Lancaster and together they will fly at the Dawlish Air Show in August.

Kevin Wills, Flying Display Director for Dawlish Air Show said: "As soon as the Air Show committee learned that the Canadian Lancaster would be here in the UK at the time of our event, we knew that we had to try and get her flying over Dawlish with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. We are absolutely delighted that we have been able to get her booked and excited at the prospect of Dawlish Air Show hosting what will be such a memorable sight and sound.

Whoah, that really is a once in a lifetime event not to be missed and never to be repeated again after this summer.

Was curious how a Lancaster is going to be able to fly across the Atlantic.

The answer is simple.  It has overnight stops in Newfoundland, Greenland and Iceland - all very sensible indeed with each leg of the journey being around half its potential range.
