Forecasters are warning of hurricane-strength gusts of up to 90mph and torrential rain as many areas face a direct hit
Emergency services were on high alert yesterday as a freak storm thundered towards Britain.
Forecasters are warning of hurricane-strength gusts of up to 90mph and torrential rain as many areas face a direct hit tomorrow night.
They fear it could be the most devastating blow since the Great Storm of 1987, which claimed 18 lives, ripped up 15 million trees and caused £2billion damage.
And they now say a far wider area than initially expected could be affected - with the threat of power disruptions and travel chaos throughout Monday.
