I think the idea for the committe was that if they bought them, they could then rent them out to raise some finance for the carnival

@user4549

At no time did the Carnival tell us that, the first we heard of this was days after the decision had been made.  Sue Purser was at our meeting and I asked her "Will this cause you any problems?"

Her answer to me was " I don't know, we will have to have a Board meeting".

She said nothing about loss of hire income, and she is their Treasurer

They state in the newspaper that the hire income from all equipment (not just the gazebos) was £300.  You may be interested to know that according to their accounts that figure equates to just 1% of their income last year.

On the flip side, many other groups in the town who also do good things for the community will be able to hire gazebos for their events free of charge.

Is there an opportunity for their accounts to be scrutinised at any point?

Flo, they would have had to submit their accounts with the grant application but as they are the sort of company that they are (can't remember exactly) they don't have to make them available to the public.

(previous discuss somewhere!)

'Last accounts made up to' not sure 'made up' is a good turn of phrase ...

I think there is a lot of personal nastiness in the complaint threat.  The Carnival Committee really don't want the public behind them do they, I think they are in the wrong job.

I think when I Birsdey joined a lot of problems were created and its just gone from there, it needs an impartial level head to get in there and try to sort things out.

Maybe its time to end the Dawlish Carnival once and for all ..it seems to cause people a lot of stress with finance and finding people to organise it.
