Next month children's entertainment and live music will be laid on in Dawlish and Teignmouth in an aim to lure shoppers into the towns.
Teignmouth's will be on a Wednesday, Tuesday's are being set aside for Dawlish, except for carnival week.
The activities for Dawlish will be at Red Rock. On August 6th and 20th will be arts and crafts with artist Angie Jenner.August 27th face painting.
Live acoustic music will be available on the days on the Lawn from 4pm until 7pm

@ Stephen.
No, not that Red Rock, but the one in Sandy Lane, and as flo says, not exactly luring people into town as there is a big car park there and have no reason to go into town.
If we had a decent bandstand on the Lawn, (like we were supposed to be getting back in 2000) instead of that crumbling eyesore, then why not get more acts to use that?
Get rid of that tacky basketball thing as well.
I wonder what happened to the money that was going towards the Millenium Bandstand? Anyone else remember that?
Wouldn't it be more effective, in terms of getting people into the town, to have used The Strand Centre?
You can see then that Teignmouth will get the people, all located between the beach and shops. Why Dawlish does not make more use of the Lawn I will never know, but then I have never felt they really want visitors ..but they do want their money!
@Carer.Thanks for correcting me. One point. Teignmouth can afford to have local group Muse appear at Teignmouth, and good they were too. So you can see where people will go for live music.
Muse chose to come to Teignmouth they weren't paid to come by Teignmouth.
Bandstand didn't happen because council at the time couldn't agree on a design, then as i inderstand it they were told that if current one was knocked down permission wouldn't be given for a replacement due to being in a flood plain (the fact that water hasn't ever reached that far irrelevant)
i believe that money was then earmarked for jubilee celebrations instead. That may be wrong but in the depths of my ancient brain I recal being told that.

The money raised towards the replacement Bandstand is still in the Town Council bank account and is earmarked to help Teignbridge pay for future improvements to Brook and Lawn. News awaited from Teignbridge about exactly what they plan to do. Hopefully news later this year about the Brook, Teignbridge have officers working on this.
