Teignbridge Council will not give permission for the carnival procession nor the pram race to take place without the training of 45 marshals ahead of the events.

No volunteers have come forward despite repeated requests from the organisers.

This year the route of the procession has been changed and will end at the viaduct.

The carnival are hoping to secure a grant from Dawlish Town Council of £1,300 to replace old gazebos with modern, covered, weather-resistant ones. At the time of the application, the carnival,s company accounts were still with their accountant, under the rules of making grants, their request could not be considered.

The popular mis-placed artical competition is being organised this year by the chamber of trade.

I wonder why volunteers have not come forward. I volunteered two years ago for the carnival and for the air show and my opinion on how it was organised was just massive confusion. It seemed to me that there were two many cheifs but many Indians looking for guidence and information as to what is required of them. I do realise that the cost from tax payer money has to be used for policeing and that roads have to be closed. But it is a shame that these activities for the town have to be shelved. The carnival organises have all the phone numbers who have voluteered in the past.

So my question. Is the carnival running or not as the Dawlish News post is not that clear.

BB - don't lump air show in with carnival two separate organisations now.

I'm fairly sure that if you offer to help air show you would be welcomed, and used.

@BB.

You will find that the vast majority of people in Dawlish want these events, but when it comes to helping out, they're not interested and it's always left to the same few and I talk from experience, as I volunteer for many things that go on in Dawlish.

They want everything for nothing but give nothing in return.

Standing by for lots of abuse.

I think you will find that the attitude and actions of I Birdsey (even though he has left) has left a bad taste in peoples mouth, at the time the committee members backed his every action.

it was only a matter of time before this news broke and I for one think the whole situation has been a total stich up since dear Brian Heath passed on. No matter how good or bad the carnival comittee are at the moment they dont have a fighting chance against Teignbridge District Council.

Its time the people of Dawlish demanded action against the jobsworths who make the decisions and started an organised process of taking back control of the Towns events.

The whole carnival week needs to be re-located to the Warren and event agreements made with the associated private land owners down there. Moaning about the fair seems to stem from a shortage of space on the lawn so there's one good reason to move. The Warren has lots of space and most importantly more parking.

I will happily provide my time etc to assist in promoting a move to the Warren and should anyone else agree then lets get this moving for next year.

Hope everyone will come alone to the Den at Teignmouth next week . Enjoy the fair and and other entertainment and lets make the same happen in Dawlish Warren next year.

The Carnival Committee haven't done much to enamour themselves to the town's people.  I sometimes wonder why it's the people least able to run something like this that end up as the committee.  Okay, some of the people who have volunteered. and there have been many, may not be the easiest to work with but to turn down help from David Force when he was chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce and all the businesses and experience behind that is sheer stupidity.

If they weren't so entrenched in all the back biting and took the help where it was offered perhaps we wouldn't be in this situation.  As somebody mentioned on EOD why don't they ask the ATC to volunteer as they have been previously involved.  The help and expertise is out there, ******* well use it!

Wait for the "We told them so, if there was no help coming, we'd have to wind the company up and disband the Carnival" - jeez only in Dawlish, not.

When I was a visitor, I enjoyed the carnival, pram race, air show each year.  Since I've lived here it's clearly been petering out, which is a shame.  I don't know the history of this, but it seems from the comments that politics are bringing it down.

I wouldn't want to see the Carnival in Dawlish Warren, I want to see Dawlish keep it, otherwise it may as well give up the ghost completely.

How do I volunteer?

They have asked for £1.300 for a new gazebo, whatever happended to the £9.000 that was in the account when I Birdsey took control and in a letter answering a question (not by me but I have seen a copy) he said " we will do what we will with the money" I think is time Mr Dave Farley and his wife started to come out into the open and explain what is going on.

Message from David Force on EOD

David Force I have read this thread with no little measure of sadness at the thought that the procession and pram race might not go ahead. Chamber of Trade has stepped in to organise the Misplaced Article Competition, which was dropped by the Carnival Committee. We have now been accused by them of "not asking permission" even though we approached them to say that we would help them run it. We were told there wasn't time. Well, yes there is, actually. Last autumn I arranged a meeting in the Council Chamber to discuss how the various organisations in Dawlish, as well as Dawlish Town Council and Teignbridge could help the Committee in future. The Carnival Committee refused to turn up, apart from Ian Birdsey. He was sacked from the Committee for coming along. Sadly, the way the Committee have set themselves up, they do not appear to be accountable to anyone. I have spoken to many people who have offered to help out, but been told they weren't wanted. Some of the names appear in this thread. I am heartened that there is a groundswell of support from so many people to help out in the future. If it is wanted, I will organise a public meeting after the summer to discuss the way forward. My best advice to anyone willing and able to help out this year is to get on to Sue Purser right away and see if this year's event can be salvaged. Many people organise their holiday so that they are here for Carnival. It is inconceivable that it might not go ahead. I am told that the Carnival Committee have a personal vendetta against me, although I really don't know what I have done to warrant it, apart from organise a meeting which was designed to give them the help which they so obviously need. DAWLISH NEEDS ITS CARNIVAL. PLEASE HELP AND SUPPORT IT IF YOU CAN.

The vendetta against you David is the fact you KNEW what you were doing. When i voluteered for the carnival it seemed to me to be poorly organised. I would volunteer again if i knew David Force was involved.  If i remember but not sure that David Force was getting flak from some family members over this.

I agree with user 4549.......................

I for one Vote for David Force. He is an honest and hard working business man.

I'll volunteer to marshall it for one. I know more about this kind of work than those running the 'qualification' course I suspect! Anyone else up for it - after all it's just one evening!
