01 Jan 2009 08:25

The stores in Exeter's Guildhall Shopping Centre and Dawlish will close on Friday and the Exmouth store will be among the final batch to close on Monday.

The closures mark the end of an era for British retailing, with Woolworths having been trading on the High Street for 99 years.

Some 27,000 employees nationwide are facing unemployment as the 807 stores are closed.
