Work will go on during Christmas to stabilise cliffs along the railway line between Dawlish and Teignmouth.
Rail bosses confirmed it will be done when trains are not running along the vulnerable stretch of the line and services will not be affected
Protective fencing, installed ten years ago has buckled under the weight of mud and rocks brought down after several days of heavy rain.
It is the most expensive stretch of coastal line to maintain, as a result of constant attacks from the waves.
