BT has said 24 further Westcountry communities are due to be connected to high-speed fibre broadband network, as it continues its £2.5 billion UK-wide Openreach roll out.
Towns including Torquay, Barnstaple, Plymstock, Tavistock, Okehampton, Honiton, Totnes, Bovey Tracey, Dawlish, Tiverton and Yelverton – are due to be upgraded in 2013.
The investment project will upgrade broadband networks through a mixture of fibre-to-cabinet and fibre-to-premises technologies.
The fibre-to-cabinet service, which relays high-speed broadband the final distance to consumers' doors via existing wiring, has the capacity to increase download speeds to 80 megabits per second and upload speeds of up to 20Mbps.
