A dog owner was rescued by a passer-by after jumping into the sea to save his pet. The man leapt into the sea at Dawlish, Devon, at about 12:30 GMT to save his springer spaniel.
But he was soon struggling in the rough water and was pulled out by a passer-by who had thrown him a life ring. The dog was recovered but was pronounced dead at the scene and the dog's owner was unhurt said Brixham coastguards.
