According to some traders in Dawlish taking's have dropped by 50% since the new Sainsbury's store opened.Some traders are even considering not renewing the leases on their town premises. One store has had to reduce staffing hours.
The new Sainsbury's store at the Shutterton Bridge opened four weeks ago and it is beleived the initial surge of interest with shoppers wanting to see the new store also check out the prices. Another possibility could be fewer holiday makers in the town also limited parking.
Sainsbury's has contributed £200,000 towards improving the look and feel of the town centre. Maybe this needs to be done sooner and not later!
