A RED Arrows pilot was hailed a hero yesterday after he steered his stricken jet away from houses moments before the crash that killed him.
Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging encountered difficulties as he took part in a daredevil air display with the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, which he joined in April last year.
