Tory Tessa Lawson resigned her position just hours after signing her Declaration of Acceptance of Office. It is believed personal circumstances led to her decision.

Dawlish Town Council clerk John Winchester confirmed an election had been declared following Mra Lawson's resignation.

If 10 electors of the ward make representations to the returning office, a by-election is likely to be held within 60 days.

If no representations are received then the council will have to advertise again- this time for volunteers willing to be co-opted on to the council.
